This 2023 six-month workshop, “BEYOND THE GAZE: Navigating the Ethical Landscape in Photography,” engages participants in discussion that explores photography as a social tool. We live in a time that is different and difficult in terms of politics, economics, environmental upheaval. This workshop is dedicated to exploring different narratives from individual and collaborative vantage points. As witnesses, it is time to reflect on the complicated, daily narrative we face. Participants are challenged to create a different narrative – one that not only records but also addresses a deep understanding of possibilities, where the entire community is included as collaborator.
The workshop welcomes young advanced-level photographers and lens-based artists from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, who are led by Soumya Sankar Bose, Ashfika Rahman, and Tanvi Mishra. It commences with a week in Delhi to get to know one another and begin to develop ideas for a new project. This is followed by five months of sessions online to continue support from the workshop mentors in developing projects. Guest lectures from global leaders in the industry will be a part of the online sessions. The workshop will conclude with an editing session and a curated exhibition that will travel to India, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
The workshop is scheduled to begin 17-23.Aug.2023, at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in New Delhi, India, followed by a four-month-long series of online sessions. Workshop partners are the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in India and Alliance Française de Dhaka in Bangladesh.
