India – A Celebration of Independence

The year 1997 marks the fiftieth anniversary of India’s Independence from Great Britain. In Commemoration of this jubilee event, India: A Celebration of Independence, 1947 to 1997, presents a compendium of images taken over the course of the past five decades by twenty-three master photographers. This extraordinary collection provides an inner glimpse of India’s past half-century, revealing a quickly evolving, complex, and fascinating country.
