Showkat Nanda (b. 1982) is an independent documentary photographer based in Kashmir. He studied journalism and graduated with a master’s degree from Kashmir University in 2007. A recipient of the Fulbright fellowship and a Magnum Foundation Emergency Fund grant, Nanda has a master’s in photojournalism from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
Aside from working as a photographer, Nanda has been teaching at different universities in Kashmir. He recently started his own workshop where he mentors young documentary photographers in Kashmir and beyond. He has dedicated himself to working in his own community. His work mainly focuses on human rights, women’s issues, conflict in Kashmir and its social and cultural ramifications.
