PIX began in 2011 as a theme-based, quarterly publication, which investigates and archives contemporary photography and writing practices, in their broadest sense, in India and South Asia. Under the insightful talents of Publishers Rahaab Allana and Nandita Jaishankar, PIX has undertaken projects in Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar, initiating a dialogue on and around photography with a regional, transnational focus. PIX is researching how image-making practices are informed and how they evolve in relation to neighboring regions. There is always some absurdity in examining art or history or economics or politics of one country, without considering the matrix of how each of those things was impacted by the country to the north, or the east. As the online world globalizes our access to information, the borders of countries and even languages, in many respects, matter even less.
